NEW GENERATIONS

Over time, the number of activities falling under Vocational Service became cumbersome, and an additional Avenue of Service was needed. In 2010, this new avenue became known as New Generations. This was in keeping with the need for Rotarians to reach out to young adults and high school students with the hope that involving them in Rotary-like activities would encourage them to become Rotarians in the future. In that sense, Interact and Rotaract are to Rotary what the farm system is to baseball.

• Entrepreneurship Training - For many years, Altadena Rotary has been teaching entrepreneurship and How to Write a Business Plan to students at Muir High School and Blair High School in Pasadena. In 2009 and 2010, one of our members, Ray Carlson, has taught teachers in the Pasadena Unified School District and neighboring school districts how to teach business plan writing.
  
  
• Interact - Interact is a program whereby a club at Pasadena High School has been set up as a mini Rotary Club that is run by the students themselves with the help of a teacher liaison person and a Rotary member. Interact participates in community service projects, sometimes with the direct participation of members of Altadena Rotary.
  
  
• Rotaract - Rotaract is much like Interact but for college students and young adults to age 35. While the Rotaract that Altadena Rotary sponsors is centered around PCC -- our local junior college, it attracts students from other nearby colleges and universities and young business people as well.
